The Saga of the Ring
Jon Mason
Wednesday 17th April

A hero. A promise. A dragon. A treasure. If only it were so simple...

Sigurd, exiled prince, seeks his destiny in slaying the dragon Fafnir - but there are deeds afoot that he can only guess at. Soon he and those he loves - the valkyrie Brunhild, the princess Gudrun, her brothers Gunnar and Hogni - find themselves caught up in mysterious forces and ancient hatreds, as a cursed treasure threatens to consume them all. This may be a tale of magic and monsters, but sometimes the greatest challenges are within ourselves...

Drawn from medieval manuscripts and ancient poetry, the story of the Ring is one of the oldest and most acclaimed in Norse legend. It has inspired masterworks by Tolkien, Wagner and others, and echoes through modern culture. Jon Mason, storyteller and lover of mythology, shares his telling of this most archetypal and human of myths.

Unruly Woman
Daisy Black
Wednesday 19th June
STC 2406 Daisy Black STC web and FB.jpeg

Storyteller and academic Daisy Black presents an indecorous assortment of medieval tales from around Europe about women who gain the upper hand – or, occasionally, the upper arse.

These are stories of sex, of disguise and deception, of arse-kissing, and of women finding creative, naughty and cunning ways to overcome the restrictions placed upon them by their gender and class.

Interlacing medieval fables and romance with bawdy folk songs, this one-woman performance pays homage to literature’s original ‘nasty women’.

The performance lasts for one hour and is suitable for ages 16 and up.
